Chinese sodium-ion battery startup Jiangsu Zoolnasm Energy Technology has recently completed a significant financing round, marking a milestone for the company in the sector. The Series A2 financing round has brought the total Series A funding amount to nearly RMB 300 million ($42 million), a substantial investment that will fuel the company’s growth and development.

The funds raised in this financing round will be primarily allocated towards technological research and development, expanding production capacity, and furthering market development initiatives, as announced by Zoolnasm. This injection of capital will enable the company to enhance its sodium-ion battery technology, increase manufacturing capabilities, and explore new market opportunities.

Founded in January 2021 and headquartered in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, Zoolnasm has been making strides in the sodium-ion battery industry. In a strategic move in March 2022, the company secured investment from Country Garden Venture Capital, the venture capital arm of Country Garden, a significant development that underscored the potential of Zoolnasm’s technology and business model.

In November 2023, Zoolnasm embarked on a major project by breaking ground on its sodium-ion battery manufacturing base in Guangde, Anhui province. This facility is set to become the company’s first mass production site for sodium-ion batteries, with a planned investment of RMB 10 billion and an annual production capacity of 20 GWh of battery cells and 10 GWh of battery systems.

Moreover, Zoolnasm’s reputation as a key player in the sodium-ion battery market was further solidified when it received a nomination letter from an international automotive parts company in late October last year. This partnership positioned Zoolnasm as the designated sodium-ion battery supplier for the customer, with a projected procurement value of approximately RMB 200 million over the course of the project.

With a clear focus on innovation, expansion, and strategic partnerships, Zoolnasm is poised to make a significant impact in the sodium-ion battery industry. The recent financing round and ongoing projects demonstrate the company’s commitment to driving technological advancements and establishing itself as a leading player in the evolving energy storage sector.
